Owners Dave and Sue live next door to Rowan Cottage. For many years they ran the nearby Ken Bridge Hotel. So expect a warm welcome and a wealth of local knowledge if you’d like to find out more about the area – both now and in years gone by.
Or – if you prefer – they are just as happy to leave you to enjoy your quality time together.

ARRIVAL / DEPARTURE

You can check-in any time after 16:00. There’s a key safe box so you can let yourself in and get settled. Departure time is by 10:30.

PARKING

There is ample off-road parking for up to three cars plus storage for trailers or boats etc.

SECURE STORAGE

Bikes can be stored in the secure, lockable garden store throughout your stay.

LOCAL SHOPS & CAFES

New Galloway Community Shop is just 70 yards away and is incredibly well-stocked. We also have a post office as well as The CatStrand which has a café and shop as well as a packed agenda of events and exhibitions at its Arts Centre.

The nearest major supermarkets are approx. 15 miles away in Castle Douglas where there is a Tesco and Co-op.

FUEL & EVC POINTS

The closest service station (which also has a well-stocked shop) is 3 miles away in St John’s Town of Dalry.

There are Electric Vehicle Charging (EVC) points in the car park just over the stream from Rowan Cottage.

WASTE & RECYCLING

There are separate bins for general waste, tins and plastics (red lidded bin) and paper and cardboard (blue lidded bin). Collection day is Monday. Please take all glass and bottles to the glass recycling bin in the car park just over the stream from the cottage.

Dogs Welcome

You are very welcome to bring up to two dogs on holiday with you to Rowan Cottage.

There are a few rules that we ask you to stick to during your stay:

  • Please keep your dog(s) off the furniture.
  • Do not allow your dog(s) upstairs or in the bedrooms.
  • Bag and bin all dog poo and please exercise your dog(s) outside the garden. (There’s a wonderful circular walk straight across the bridge at the bottom of the garden).
  • Do not leave your dog(s) alone in the cottage. Doggy day care is available at nearby Fur Babies if required.
  • Please remove pet hairs from the carpets and furniture before you leave (there’s a vacuum cleaner in the cupboard under the stairs).
